Bio
I was born in Southern Indiana, and grew up on the family farm about 30 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky. During that time I learned how to survive a holocaust, also known as traditional farm living - growing and preserving you own food, hunting, butchering, herbalism, weather-watching, and general independence. I went to the public school system, was regarded as the local genius (nevermind I rank as a genius on any IQ test), and was a National Merit Scholar.

Then I moved to Huntsville to attend college, free ride, which expired after 2 semesters when the real world caught up with me and I was no longer the smartest person in 3 counties. Huntsville will do that to a person, since we have the highest number of Ph.D.s per capita in the U.S., and you can find bumper stickers that say "Yes, I am a Rocket Scientist", which people do have on their cars. And yes, I know something about rocket science. I graduated from a school of engineers and scientists, with a degree in (drumroll) art and art history. Yep, got an education in art from an engineering school. Go figure.

During my first semester, one of my electives was Emergency Medical Technician - Basic. That was 1995, I passed, and have been a licensed EMT since then. I joined the local Rescue Squad, and eventually became an Vehicle Extrication Specialist, along with training in Collapsed Trench Rescue (collapsed utility excavations and such), some basic Swiftwater Rescue training, and became a National Weather Service Storm Spotter. All volunteer, as a hobby. In 2004 I became an American Heart Association CPR instructor, qualified to teach all levels of CPR.

At some time during all of this, I married an engineer.

With my degree in art, as a graphic designer, I went to work with a group of, you guessed it, engineers and rocket scientists. I eventually became the Emergency Response Team Coordinator for the group I worked for, teaching CPR, watching the skies during bad weather, and making sure people were in the storm shelters if a tornado was in the area. Then I suddenly developed a neuropathy (nervous system damage) that has kept me out of work since April 2005. Test have ruled out MS and Lupus, and it's looking like I'll have to adjust to a new way of life.

Oh, yeah, I'm a complete sci-fi/fantasy and crime-drama addict. If I'm seriously watching TV, it's one of the following shows: CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica (new version), Farscape, Bones, Angel, or Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Or any serious history program on the Roman Republic/Empire or ancient history in general.
